They did well those old UDs, I was talking to a bloke at the Olgas once, he was heading to Docker River with a UD pulling doubles. The road was unsealed then , massive corrugations and sand drifts across it.

For some reason this pic makes me think of the opening to the video for the tune "Lets Dance" by David Bowie. Something about all the dust blowing up around that truck.

What size engine would this use?. All we have here are 230hp and automatics for medium duty local deliveries.
Heavy duty and UD are never used in the same sentence here...

Thanks Mark= i have never seen that will have to go and have a look my brother would have that clip for sure=Thanks Diamond this truck at the time was being used for Interstate running im not to sure what horse power he had in this would only be about 300 maybe not even that 280 maybe 320 around there anyway =Was a goos cheap truck for blokes wanting to get into the game and the spuds were a popular load for owner drivers because it was pay on Delivery so it was a good payng load for some battlers thanks Mark and Thanks Diamond

The UDs were only 265 hp in those days but they currently sell a bogie drive prime mover around 450hp.

Yes Pete, the latest UD heavy truck's called "Quon." The engine's 13 liter turbocharged inline-6 available with 2 power ratings of 460 horsepower/2,255 Nm & 390 horsepower/1,716 Nm. The 460 horsepower version is the GW470 6x4 prime mover that's 70-ton B-Double rated. I look forward to Craig's next pictures that will eventually include a UD Quon GW470 prime mover & B-Double or tipper & super dog. 8)
