The Rock

Despite living only a 5 minute drive from the sea, I haven't shot a mono coastal long exposure for a year or more, so thought I would take advantage of the high tide coinciding with a break between heavy showers. After a false start that required me to return home and actually put a memory card in my camera, I got underway.

3 shots in and as I was setting up a 4th, panic set in; I couldn't focus. Literally. I tried it in automatic - everything still blurry. Shit. Was it the lens or the camera? I headed home and tried my other lens. Same problem. Bollocks. Did I get the extended warranty? I couldn't remember and couldn't find the paperwork either. The swear words were getting stronger at this point. After a couple hours of frantic searching and an email to Nikon, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry - it turns out I'd somehow knocked the viewfinder diopter adjustment wheel thingymajig sometime between shots, causing the viewfinder to be set for someone suffering with bad cataracts and severe myopia. They say it's good to get your heart racing everyday, but I doubt they mean in this way...
