Bf 109 F "Trop"

This particular aircraft was flown by Hans Joachim Marsellie, the " Star of Africa". Seeing service in the battle of Britain, his mediocre performance resulted in his posting to Africa. While he was there, he became one of the few pilots who was willing to slow down to dogfight with the British. Before long, he had notched up plenty of kills.

Unfortunately, on the 30th of September 1942, the Star of Africa experienced engine failure in his Bf 109G, which resulted in his death.

Retracts have been fitted and cockpit opens. Credit for the canopy goes to Legohaulic

Great job, as usual. I like the changes in cockpit section. It would be great to see more pictures, especially of the nose section..

Nice to see someone else going for a narrower fuselage cross-section. It is so tempting to just make it 4 studs wide at minifig scale, but that would just be wrong. Nice job.

This looks like a cover of those plastic model kits, fantastic job on this!

Julius D. I'll be sure to post more shots soon ;)

Ed Diment Thank you, though the lower part of the cross section at the cockpit area is exactly 4 studs wide

Well done on this build, I may have to use that tail and nose idea on one of my birds! Good work mate:D

Very cool to see another take on the 109! Your narrow nose is an interesting solution.

I preferred your old one, and mine is heavily inspired by that. However, I do really like this so nice job! It's good to see that scale is being observed nicely. What is with all these Bf109s coming out?
  • Ed Diment 4y

Ah, I thought it was a little less than that (i.e. a plate thickness), but I see you used brackets to hold the sides adding the two extra half plates. Still a nice design though, capturing the downward taper of the sides.

    Thanks all!
Snuffwuzz (Ali) Bf 109s just happen to have a certain appeal with modelers, I guess...

I don't know how you do this in CAD... I can barely build a tank in cad with the model sitting next to me...
  • ABStract/ 4y

Well neither can I, I'm better at aircraft, as you can see ;)

    I see... :P
