Brown eyes (detail)

The Yale Art Gallery has a superb collection of italian pre-renaissance art, including two amazing portraits by Sienese artist Taddeo di Bartolo (ca 1362-ca 1422). This is Saint Jerome, who had a big following among the ladies of the Roman aristocracy. He would have made a great American televangelist and/or presidential candidate. Tempera on panel painted around 1390.
