Pulka dog race

Pulka team with two siberian huskies at Conta Musher Race: Les Contamines-Montjoie, Haute-Savoie, France

Pulka is plural for pulk. So we say “the dog pulls a pulk during a pulka race”. Traditionally, dog pulka were used by Scandanavian hunters and military.

The pulk sled or tray is driven by one, two or three dogs at maximum and weighted according to the number of dogs. The driver is a cross-country skier, connected to the pulk by an elastic cord. Dogs are harnessed to rigid shafts that protect them for downhill.
