Round Tower Guide 6

Now we come to building the walls. Its a simple case of alternating between a 1x1 brick with a stud on the side and round plates. You don't have to use round plates, a 1x1 round will do just as well. I must stress the fact that you really shouldn't build any higher than 8 studs without strengthening it. I build to a height of 8 studs, then place some 2x16 plates as before. As you can imagine, this technique is quite parts intensive, you will need quite a few of those 1x1 bricks with studs on the side.

Awesome! I love your stuff but they are very parts intensive :P

Maybe this is a stupid question but is there a reason you have to use 1 by 1 rounds? Couldn't you just use a bunch of regular 1 by 1 basic bricks?

^ You don't have to use them, standard 1x1 rounds will work just as well. I only use them because I use them on my other buildings, so on closer inspection it tones in better when placed with my other builds. You do notice more texture when looking closer, but I suppose it really doesn't make too much of a difference either way.

No, I mean couldn't you use regular 1 by 1 (square) bricks?
  • Sebeus I 3y

magnus_lauglo I think not, otherwise there's no room to make the wall curve

Sebeus I Actually it would be fine, because the hinge is to the rear. There is room. It just won't look as good.

Luke - this is just class. Thanks for posting the technique.

Rod Gillies Right, I see it now :P confused function with details, but a nice detail it is

I've just tried building a round tower, and worked on different techniques/styles, and I have to say it that although your way is very brick-consuming, it works amazing and gives a wall a nicer curve. Thanks for sharing this!
