The sun had just gone down and through a break in the clouds bright color blazed a pink trail for a magic moment. The winter rainstorms are dramatic looking indeed here in Northern California as you can see.
Despite the dim light I went ahead and hand held my camera in the cold wild wind, having forgotten to bring my tripod. I've just printed this image and yes, it had noise in the sky, but I removed it with Noise Ninja. In addition, the land was silhouetted darkly against the ocean, and I decided to adjust that and reload this image. I used the 'fairy wand' to isolate the land from the rest of the image, and the shadow/highlight tool to remove some of the black in the land and bring out its details. I did the same for the sky, leaving the ocean pretty much as it was.
I like to mention this sometimes when I upload photos of wild nature: To help protect life on Earth, we all need to focus and work together to retool our economies and develop new ways to fuel our everyday life activities with energy that is sustainable for the planet.
