It was just after a storm, and the clouds were breaking up as brilliant rays began to stream through. I raced to the cliffs to get a shot, and another person was already there, enjoying the scene.......the powerful swelling waves, roar of the sea, and magnificent energy. She didn't know I was there, and I didn't disturb her by going down to where she was because she was clearly so peaceful, and besides, I was glad to have a person in the frame, adding that sense of vast contemplation which the ocean inspires in us all.
The Mendocino Coast is an unspoiled wild and rugged place. Dedicated conservationists have for years and years prevented oil drilling from taking place off this coast. Without their great effort this area would have become just another over-run American industrialized wasteland. The abundant sea-life: seaweeds, abalone, sea urchins, seals, otters, whales, depend on this environment to thrive, and so does the human heart.
Because a few people have cared enough over the years to protect life, to protect this coast, we have a wild place that thousands of visitors come to every year, for healing and for refreshing their minds and spirits.
I love it here and feel like a guardian of a special treasure, the place where I live. It is a pleasure to share this place with my Flickr friends.
