For the first time since the inception multi-party elections in 1992, the 2013 General Election went by without an outbreak of violence in Mt. Elgon Country. The region has been synonymous with violence since the origin of multiparty politics in Kenya. It covers nine districts habited by three main communities – the Sabaot, the Bukusu and the Teso. Due to the consistency of elections related the community has been tense polarized and fragile.
