Rosa Lee Hill
Some of these photographs will be in a book, and I thought it a great idea to get feedback on Flickr to help me decide which ones to use. My agent, however, says not to continue. So here is one last photograph of a blues singer, taken in 1967 in Senatobia, Mississippi, of Sid Hemphill's daughter, Rosa Lee Hill. Rosa Lee lived and died in abject poverty, but, as she told me, "The harder it get with me, the higher I hold my head. See, I don't hold my head down and just grieve, I hold my head up. And that makes me feel better. See, if you fall, don't wallow, get up. And hold your head up. When it's hard for you, look up. Don't look down, look up. That's a good way to be, ain't it?"
