      I used the same kind of yarn (cotton) in black, threaded my yarn needle like a needle & thread (doubled) then from underneath put the yarn through where I thought it would look good. I did the stitch in the middle of the 7 dc cluster (enlarge this photo) and went up and down to follow those clusters. The yarn will only be seen from the front where you pull it over a stitch. The back will have the longer stitches inbetween each connection. You may knot it after each stitch as you go for a secure hold. I didn't. It comes out evenly, knotted it, then tucked in my ends. Did the same thing on the little shoes :'} Hope this helps.
