questionable ice cream flavors
One of the places I visited in Tokyo was the Namco Namja Town in Sunshine City in Ikebukuro. It was a profoundly confusing (to a westerner who doesn't read or speak Japanese) amusement park which also housed ice cream, gyoza, and cream puff "museums". There were tons of oddball ice cream flavors. I tasted these three: Dracula brand garlic ice cream (which was pretty bland, with no particular garlicky flavor), Twin Star Aso Bier Story (beer ice cream) which I would have thought I'd love, but the fermentation from the beer plus the milk and cream made the ice cream taste like a cheese that had gone bad. Lame. Finally, Pit Viper ice cream. Sadly (or fortunately, depending on you how you look at it) this snake ice cream didn't have big chunks of snake in it, but rather was made with snake powder. It tasted mostly bland, with just barely a hint of "meaty" flavor, but that was most likely due to the pine nuts that were in it coupled with my subconscious desire to believe i was tasting snake flesh.
