pmurray broken wall at fernilee woods

Just beside the footpath on the western side of Fernilee Reservoir, these once solid boundary walls built in a previous era in the history of the Goyt Valley, are visible in various places. As here, these walls are now all too often left broken and unmanaged, a sad reflection on the life and work of our forebears for whom this area and its resources were the source of their livelihood and of a once thriving local economy. This photograph depicts a typical example.
