Ignacy Łukasiewicz

A Polish pharmacist, engineer, businessman, inventor, and philanthropist.

An inventor of a kerosene lamp which revolutionised day-to-day life of all people. It was implemented as a street lamp, allowed performing surgeries over the night and many more.

A pioneer of oil industry, in 1856 he built the first modern oil refinery.

He supported and often funded new hospitals, schools, courts, roads and bridges. He fought against poverty and alcoholism, and was implementing provident and pension funds. He encouraged and helped other entrepreneurs in oil industry.

 

This MOC was built in 2018 as a part of Zbudujmy to! LUG's project "Historia Polski" (The History of Poland") to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Poland's sovereignty in 1918.
