The Egg

When I was in school, this was a first year classic (and mandatory) assignment: Make a picture of a white egg on a white background, making the egg appear as a round object in a two-dimensional medium, and keeping both the egg and the background as pure white as possible. It's harder than it sounds, or looks. For fun, I repeated the assignment some 40 years later with my tiny pack-of-cards Nikon P5000 using only natural window light. (Tip: the error most students, me included, made was using too many lights. Try to work on the KISS principle, and remember that our system has only one principal light—Old Sol. Never use 3 lights when you can use 2. Never use 2 when you can use 1.)
