55/365.....A composting worm
This winter, I had the sense to protect my composting worms with a layer of bubble wrap around the wormery, and so, despite the prolonged cold weather, my worms are thriving. Today, being warmer with no overnight frost, several had wriggled to the protective coir layer on top of the composting material. This worm seemed less afraid of the light so I was able to take a few photos before it wriggled into the dark. It probably sounds silly to say I love my worms, but it's true. I fuss over them a lot, feel worried if they don't create much waste & try to vary the vegetable peelings etc. At present, cabbage is popular, mushrooms less so, & carrots they can take or leave.
Seriously, if you haven't got room for a proper compost heap, I recommend a wormery - you might not create much compost, but it is excellent quality, & the worms are so interesting.....K
