Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camp Talent Show
On August 9, 2012 at Brookwood Elementary School, over 60 individuals with special needs planned, practiced, and refined skits for the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation’s Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camp Talent Show. This heartwarming show features participants from Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation’s Camp Explore, Junior Ventures and New Ventures Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camps.
Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation’s Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camps are held for individuals with disabilities and special needs, such as various levels of intellectual disorders, autism, traumatic brain injuries, or visual, hearing and/or physical impairments.
Camp Explore is for youth ages 6 – 21. Campers improve their independence and social skills by participating in sports, group games, music, drama, nature studies, arts and crafts, and other activities.
Junior Ventures and New Ventures serves individuals ages 16 – 21, with the focus on leisure education and pre-vocational skills. These participants plan community outings, learn job skills, and participate in field trips and special events.
