Death Valley Sand Patterns

I made a quick trip to Death Valley National Park this weekend - drove there Saturday morning and came right back Sunday night. As usual, the sand dunes near Stovepipe Wells were my first stop.

I've checked out these dunes about five times over the past three years and the thing that surprises me most is that their general shapes don't really change much. I would have thought they'd constantly shift in the wind, but for the most part their shapes have been remarkably consistent over the past few years.
