The view from Bishop Pass, Kings Canyon National Park

Standing at 11,900, looking north into the John Muir Wilderness. This is one of the steeper High Sierra passes; the north side switchbacks directly below are prone to avalanche and rockslides, making it one of the last to open in an average season.

In this view, Bishop Lake, Saddlerock Lake, Ledge Lake, and Spearhead Lake. A 6 mile descent from this point will lead you to South Lake and the trailhead.

It's going to be a great season in the backcountry this year.

Cheers,

Steve
