Selden Pass, Marie Lake, John Muir Wilderness

    Newer Older

If you are familiar with the Eastern Sierra / Hwy 395 corridor, Marie Lake and Selden Pass lie 20 miles due west of Rovana. Hiking from North Lake over Piute Pass, it's probably 30 miles by foot to get to this spot.

A fast moving cold front blew in some clouds, but left the lake mirror-calm until after sundown. There was scuttle along the trail of huge trout here, and some guys I talked to the next day at Heart Lake and Sallie Keys Lakes were quitting and hiking out, exhausted after days of catch and release action.

At 10,880', Selden isn't the most bad-ass pass in the Sierra, but man, what a spot. This is looking SSW at the pass and Mt. Senger (12,286') above and to the left.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Beauty, Steve! I'm dying to get up to Thousand Island Lake! This image makes me miss it that much more. I'm going to start praying to the sun gods to melt that snow ASAP.

I hear you. Looks buried up there - drove up 395 yesterday. I heard Dana Meadow (Tioga entrance to Yosemite) has 7' snowpack.

Great shot. I am glad the forecast is for warm weather, getting into the 90's in the eastern sierra in a few days. That'll get the snow melting but for Kirkwood and Alpine to offer skiing on July 4th weekend, you know it will be in to August before we can get in to many of the upper passes! This place looks like a nice place to visit.

I'm feeling for the northbound PCT hikers - they should be closing in on some of these spots right about now, nothing to do but keep trudging through the snow...

Stunning shot! I know of this area but I have not visited it yet. I'm backpacking out of South Lake next weekend. Not sure how high we'll get with all the snow up in the high country still. Inspiring image

OK, I am a decent hiker, but 30 miles...In a month maybe. This is a great view Steve; this mountain is awesome to look at.
