Panorama: Eastern Berlin
Taken from the top of the Reichstag. A view over the eastern side of Berlin with lots of famous buildings.
Since you can't see notes in the large version I'll give you the info here. You should open the big version in a new window then you can read it.
Starting from the left you can see on the very left bottom a little bit of the government area. A little to the right, amidst the houses, is a small golden dome. That the big synagogue that was destroyed by the Nazis and since repaired. In the middle of the picture right over the river Spree you see the train station Friedrichstrasse. This was one of the stations were people from the west could enter East-Berlin. The dome structure a bit above that is the former Egyptian museum of East-Berlin. It's being renovated know and this collection and the one of West-Berlin will be united in another museum there in a few years. A little to the right you see the TV tower on Alexanderplatz, still decorated from the world cup. In front of that an office building, formerly some sort of world trade center. To the right of that is the Berlin Dome. Right next to that, wrapped behind the cranes the Berlin city hall. The large buildings in the back to the right are what the former East-German government thought of as good architecture. Somewhere there you see two similar tower-like structures sticking out. This is the French and German dome. To the very very right the building with the green roof is the famous Hotel Adlon, one of the finest hotels in the world.
