Miles Davis, Bitches Brew

Bitches Brew was a seminal album that opened new boundaries for the music around 1970. The beauty of joining the electric trip with Davies in '70s was as much the music as the cover art of his albums from that period. This is shot of my copy of the original recording that I own. Hence the circular traces of the record being taken out of the sleeve...

You did'nt buy that when it was released did you, hanging around Dobell's in the Charing Cross Road.

I moved away from this stuff for a while, when we did the big metal job in New York in 1968 we were asked to list records to get in for the space one I chose was Sketches of Spain which went down like a lead balloon, well I still like it!! There was an amazing record store near our flat in Hornsey High St before we moved , we bought hundreds of discount LP's magic stuff, this Miles would have fitted right in, remember 'In Blissful Company'?? but there was lots of funny stuff like 'little green apples' and we wore out Holly came from Miami, Fla not to mention a Lad inSane.....

Sketches Of Spain have a melodic integrity of Ravel. Bitches Brew and the '70s follow up albums were anarchic, like Stravinsky's Rite Of Spring.

Great album, great painting on the cover also. Mati Klarwein made a lot of great covers of fusion-albums.

Great album indeed. It's a pity the the followers-up were not that genially and made a lot of electrified shambles .

Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McGlaughlin as well as the original Shakti with McGlaughlin and Zakir Hussain, amazing stuff in the same time period.
