Copano Bay Soil and Water Conservation District Board Member Dallas Ford opened the press conference for the roll out the Gulf of Mexico Initiative (GOMI) in Texas, at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, in Austwell, TX, on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011. The Aransas Refuge is a 15,000-acre wildlife sanctuary established in 1939. Its fresh water comes from the San Antonio River, which flows by the historic Alamo southeasterly towards the Guadalupe River at the estuary of San Antonio Bay, the primary body of water for the refuge.
