The Squash Saga
Not a very good photo but had to share:
So I get my little garden space and rush to plant seeds, hopeing there is enough summer left for them to grow. 30 days later I have a bunch of plants and they are starting to bud. You are supposed to thin but I hate to pull anything out of the ground. Finally I remove a few where the big plants are shadowing the smaller. That's when the gophers decide to start 'thinning' too and several plants become supper for them! I am not happy. Now it's a race to see if I get squash before the gophers get the plants. This photo was 3 days ago and there are my baby squash on one of the last 2 surviving plants. This morning I have only one plant left, this one, but I have 3 small squash for dinner! Evening update-they were delicious!
10/10/2012: this one plant survived the gophers and provided me with numerous meals,
it's now done producing, though green and healthy no more squash.
