During Breakfast

Newer Older

Sequel to the shot I posted yesterday. This was as we were about to eat.
For my first venture into this type of shot, I am happy with it...for now.

I love this! My son and I ALWAYS have what we call eggie in a wine glass. Fancy eh? It just what you made and we have it with matzoh and butter. It is my fave breakfast!

great inclusion of the window. what a sunny and love-filled frame! i know how difficult it can be with hungry mouths on the sidelines, but i find the placement of objects here not to relate to one another much. you have all the right things there -- and what a gorgeous milk bottle and flower blossom, btw -- but each object looks very placed without a particular flow. do more with numerous objects (right up my alley :), and have the time to set stuff up -- i'd love to see more scenes like this!

I understand your point. We rarely have time for that kind of breakfast so I pretty much put everything on the table and shot.
This is how I thought about this shot: I put the milk close enough to the coffee but not too obviously next to it. The butter is close enough to the toast though. Since I wanted to start eating the egg first, I put it in the foreground. The yogurt is a filler as it was also there to fill our belly if we were hungry.
As always thank you for your insights, will keep them in mind for future shots.

sure, that makes sense. :) i meant well; thanks for sharing your thought-process! do you like complex shots like this, or is your preference simpler set-ups?

I know you meant well! Your comments are always very constructive and always read and appreciated. I did not like where the yogurt was, too centered. I was trying to create a no-center zone but was not happy with the way things were moving. That's why I tried to arrange things as "hmm what would we eat first and how".
I loved doing this. It was a great exercise for me and not shooting a plated dessert. I loved having "issues" I needed to solve. Like the strong light coming from the back, the placement of things, etc...
Definitely something I want to keep praticing to try new things.
I had a much greater # of rejects looking at the pictures to select one compared to desserts so def. something to work on!

Oh and good Lord: why are windows, wall, table and window panels never completely straight in a house?!! Geez :)

I missed this Helen! But having read yours and Melina's dialogue, I see where you were going with this. I personally think the placement of the breakfast items work well. I adore the light and the whole scene is very reminiscent of a "homely country cottage"...The green foliage/backdrop through the windows, really helps emphasise this. I'd love to see you attempt a few more of these.
