Honolulu Snooper 1955

    Newer Older

Happenings for the week of September 16-22, 1955. By my count, most of the places pinpointed on the maps aren't there any more.

      Wow, $6.60 for a 3 minute call...in 1955 dollars...so what, about $20 today?

According to this inflation calculator, $6.60 in 1955 dollars would be $56.70 in today's money. Luckily, technological advancements allow a three minute call from Hawaii today to be a fraction of even the 1955 charge. Unless you're making the call through a hotel switchboard!

The Snooper had a really long run. It started in 1948 and ran for about 30 years, till about 1978. Hawaiian Telephone placed an ad on the back cover for probably almost all of the issues.
