Deal Seafront - Mar 2011 - Trust Me, She's A Mountaineer
While taking pictures of the 'Man with Fish' statue I noticed these young ladies chatting away on the bench. It was late in day and the temperature was plummeting towards bloody cold. I thought one was dressed for the occasion but thought maybe the other had lost her dress in a freak seafront squall but I saw her again later collecting for Charity in the High Street so decided it was a ploy to raise extra cash from middle-aged men with long memories but short on vitality. She saw me as an obvious candidate so I willingly dropped £1.20 into the collection box. It turned out she was raising money so she could climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya. I trust some Charity was going to benefit but forgot to ask. I also forgot to ask for her name and telephone number so no change there then.
It turns out she is a student at Reading University who are organizing a weekend break to scale the near 20000-foot hill. It's not a climb just a stiff walk but doing it without oxygen adds to the fun. Some people climb mountains, I watch England play Cricket. It takes all sorts but fun is where you find it. Our neighbour did the long walk last year so I was able to chat away quite happily to her and look her in the eyes for longish periods as well. It was a Herculean effort cos those legs were fascinating. I didn't ask her about the special mountaineering leggings she was wearing but can only assume that if she had stood outside for 5 hours in those they must be made of Kevlar. Whatever they were made of she looked good in them.
16/06/19 Today this picture became my 58th to reach 100,000 views. Well done girls, and those leggings and pyjamas.
