Bristol Zoo Giraffe 1989 - Black Tongue Poised
Giraffes are a favourite of mine. Slow and awkward on occasions they can also move swiftly and gracefully when the need arises. Amazing eyes and eyelashes also. They have that strange desire to reach the unreachable leaves at the top of the tree when there are perfectly good ones readily available.
I put this picture up because it reminds me of what happened next. Esther was stood next to me with our young son in her arms. As she lifted Rhys up towards the giraffe to get a better look the giraffe lowered its head further and licked his face with its extraordinarily long black tongue. Wonderful moment.
