152/365 - Peppercorns

Another for my occasional series of square, spicy shots, this time of an assortment of peppercorns: pink, black Telicherry, green, and white.

My obsessive side kicked in tonight. I honestly can't believe I spent nearly 4 hours fiddling with this shot, taking 120 exposures in the process, and running through four or five different sets of props. Still don't know that I'm in love with the composition (there was another contender), but I have to shut down my inner perfectionist and call it a night. This was a challenge both to get the detail I wanted in a composition that still had depth and to get lighting that wasn't just too flat (which plays into the detail thing somewhat, too.)

Nikon D7000 w/Nikkor 18-200,, @ 50mm, 1/250s @ ƒ/22, ISO800. One SB-700 camera right, full power, 24mm zoom, bounced off the ceiling. Second SB-700 camera left and slightly above, full power, 24mm zoom, shooting through white umbrella, to get some shadow detail. Cropping and some other minor tweaks in Aperture.
