Timisoreana Beer Mat (back)
The most popular beer in Romania, Timisoreana is also the oldest and first beer in the country. The brewery came into existence in 1718.
The name means "from Timisoara" (my hometown), but can also be interpreted as "a girl from Timisoara".
It is also my favourite.
The text goes:
"Let's raise our beers in honour of Prince Eugene of Savoy, who, after banishing the turks from the city/fortress of Timisoara, in 1718, took the most wise of decisions: to build the first brewery of Romania."
