2009 Isaiah Berlin Lecture Featuring Michael Ignatieff
On July 8 at 7:00 PM, Liberal International (the world federation of liberal and progressive democratic parties) and the Canada Club (the leading forum for Canadian issues and interests in the UK) hosted Michael Ignatieff, MP at the National Liberal Club, to deliver the annual Isaiah Berlin lecture of the Liberal International.

This event brought together high profile British, European and international politicians alongside interested members of the public - British and Canadian alike. Hosted by LI President Lord Alderdice (one of the architects of the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland) and Margaret Egan, Chair and Honarary Secretary of the Canada Club, this event provided a fantastic opportunity for interested individuals and corporations to mingle with the man who could be Canada's next Prime Minister. This event also included the awarding of the Liberal International Prize for Freedom to Lord Eric Avebury, a long standing champion of human rights in the British House of Lords. This prestigious honour has been previously awarded to (among others): Aung San Suu Kyi (of Burma), Benazir Bhutto, former President Chen Shui Bian (Taiwan) and Mary Robinson (former President of Ireland).

The venue of the National Liberal Club is a stunning and appropriate setting on the River Thames, which was once used to billet Canadian troops during the Second World War.
