Mate, as in the Argentinian beverage? I hate that stuff.

I am not sure, it looks like mate from the photo, although I had not noticed it in real life. I quite liked it... but then I loved Argentina.

Upon closer examination and enlargement of the photo, he is using a metal "bombilla" (mate-rietje) to sip from a typical mate container (as seen in this photo I was also surprised to find this greeting "Yerba Mate Holland wenst alle klanten een Gelukkig Kerstfeest en een Herbal Nieuw Jaar!," which I find very funny, being a Latin American. The chap in the photo is following this tip "U kunt het water bijvoorbeeld in een sfeervol theepotje warmhouden op een theelichtje of in een thermoskan," which he is carrying. Finally, Cubans cannot live without their beloved Materva, a yerba mate drink :

Thank you Elián. I could not get the link to that photo to which you were referring with the Dutch writing. We were surprised to see that mate was also popular somewhere else... I think itw as Kosovo this last summer...

We will have to try Materva when we finally make it over to Cuba!

Alas, you can only get Materva today in the United States.
