A Late Victorian Weatherboard Villa - East Ballarat
This smart late Victorian single storey, double fronted villa in the provincial Victorian city of Ballarat is built of weatherboards.
Built between the 1880s and the 1890s, the middle-class owners of this villa made for themselves a comfortable abd spacious home with elegant decoration. It features two chimneys and is set back from the street behind a low fence, amid a lovely garden, including roses. The villa is a decent size, has a bull nosed verandah with cast iron lacework and lovely sash windows with decoration around them. It also has typical Victorian decoration under the gable.
A house like this would have suited a modest Victorian family of the middle classes who could afford a servant to ensure gracious Victorian domestic happiness.
