Labeled photo of proximity of dumping area to opening Jay creek

UPDATE - Remediated through collaborative efforts between Jay Heritage Center, NY State Parks and Westchester County Parks. Info below is for archival purposes.

In a continuation of the Jay Property investigation initially requested by the Jay Heritage Center in March 2010, NYDEC representatives Wendy Rosenbach and Ken Brezner visited the Jay Property on May 4th, 2010 to examine the old dumping area behind the parking lot and see its location directly next to a stream hidden by invasives in the foreground. Suzanne Clary, President of the Jay Heritage Center was there along with representives of Westchester County Parks, Peter Tartaglia, Beth Herr, Alison Beall and John Baker.

Everyone expressed dismay about the dump and agreed it must be remediated. The Jay Heritage Center is especially concerned about the effects of stormwater runoff from this contaminated area which drains directly towards Marshlands and Long Island Sound. JHC hopes that the entire dump will be removed to restore the natural integrity of the Jay Property and also protect the fragile ecosystem at the adjacent Marshlands.
