As we tramp off lightheartedly on our ways we are utterly free and independent
Excerpt from a letter written on a long-distance hike many years ago:
All we need is on us, and as we tramp off lightheartedly on our ways we are utterly free and independent. The sense of having one’s life needs at hand, of traveling light, brings with it intense energy and exhilaration. Simplicity is the whole secret of well–being. Free life: traveling light without clinging or despising in calm acceptance of everything that comes; free because without defenses, free not in an adolescent way, without restraint, but in the sense of being able to decide, to chose.
