    This Boeing 747SP-21 (msn 21649) (Special Performance) was originally delivered to Pan Am as N740PA on May 11, 1979. The jetliner would pass on to United Airlines on February 12, 1986 and became N149UA. The 747SPs were acquired from PA along with routes to Asia, Australia and New Zealand. N149UA is towed from the MIA gate when UA maintained a Latin American hub at Miami after acquiring the Pan Am LA division. N149UA displays the updated 1988 livery which featured larger titles.

      Sweet photo! I had forgotten that, once upon a time, airlines in the U.S. operated these wonderful classic birds! Now they're all but extinct save for a few middle-eastern examples.

      Thank you guys. I miss the SP - I got to ride it and work with it. The "Stubby" was a great airplane.
