180 degree panorama at Back Beach, Taranaki, New Zealand

Shot with my Sigma 10-20mm lens.

This photo is constructed from 30 individual frames. Three frames at each position with exposure values +/- 2 stops. Each set of three was then combined with HDR software and finally merged into a single 120 megapixel panoramic shot.

The final cropped image was 10,000 pixels wide!

To prevent exposure problems I shot in manual mode with a fixed aperture f/5.6 and auto brackets of 1/13th, 1/50th and 1/200th seconds.

HDR brings in its own set of exposure issues as the tonal range of each image segment is determined in isolation and when blended together some frames can be brighter than others. I allowed a 50% overlap with the frame either side and also applied a (software) graduated ND filter across the full width of the image.
