The Sun September 9th 2012, Not much change!

Another look at the active sun, experimenting with achieving good focus, and then adjusting the images in Photoshop. This set up is for white light so flares etc are not visible, however I do have a Ca K filter that I need to try at some time to help with flares and prominences. Have to say I am enjoying doing astronomy in the day time, sure beats working around complex equipment in the dark :-)

Love those spots!! The HF frequencies have sure been spotty Steve. Some talk of a double peak lately. Really impressive work here.

Hi Bill, agreed, 20 meters today had the west coast booming in at 40+, then suddenly down to 5/8 or so. It seems to me that the bands are generally all over the place at the moment. While the sun is fairly active , I'm not sure how to correlate the activity to the propagation seen at my QTH! I wish I had been doing solar observing during the last cycle, the data may have helped determine trends etc.

Hi Steve, I have a propagation application that I watch daily but normal indicators like the SFI just don't seen to predict what we find while operating. I'm befuddled by it all. Fun none the less though. :)
