The great east window, Cartmel Priory

Within this great east window are remnants of the old stained glass work.

Although this image gives an impression of darkness within, this is deceptive. The whole Priory Church is filled with light, from the very many windows, large and small, which grace its walls.

The interior stonework is very light-coloured and exceptionally beautiful, a testiment to the architects and stonemasons who planned and built it.
