This is the scene from the fields behind my house, looking up the valley.
The Parish Church is built upon a small rise; around the church are various old cottages, the Black Bull Inn and a beautiful old Hall. The road winds past the church and continues up to Caton Green (where the line of trees can be seen at the top of the hill).
In the middle distance, roughly 4-5 miles away, the wooden slopes of the hill behind Hornby castle can be faintly seen (middle of the scene).
The far fells are many miles away and are in North Yorkshire (far right) and Westmorland (now incorporated into the 'administrative' county of Cumbria).
(Ingleborough just out of sight far right).
Taken in the Lune Valley late evening.
