Cleveland Downtown from the City's Industrial Flats

Post Script: Thank you everyone for your comments and invites and congratulations on this photograph. It made Explore last night.

About this Photo: View of Downtown Cleveland (Ohio) taken from the old New York Central Lift Bridge in Cleveland's Industrial Flats. To me, this picture is interesting because it juxtaposes Cleveland's industrial and downtown areas and characters. The two are connected by the Cuyahoga River, which you see in the foreground. This is an HDR photograph produced from three exposures in Photomatix software.

And, this photo reminds me of this poem I wrote some time back:

When a Man Grows Old

By Don Iannone

he wonders where his life has gone

with so little of himself left to get up in the mornings

the once playful boy has a new home

he barely remembers walking the banks of the river

skipping stones with other boys

the once young builder has put away his tools

to watch much younger men build things

the wise gray-haired gentleman

living to counsel others

now forgets more than he remembers

and concentrates on not spilling his morning coffee

the old man, living all week for his sunday walk

just sits in his chair, watching birds on the feeder

thinking of all that has been

wondering why autumn leaves must surrender to the winter snow
