Dave Thomas is the founder of the Wendy's Restaurant Chain. He started out being hired by Harlan Sanders, the founder of KFC Chicken, to turn around a few KFC chains that are failing. Thomas redid their menu, designed the red and white bucket they use for their chicken, and the sales went up right away. Thomas sold his stocks for $1.5 dollars and decided to open his own restaurant. He opened his first restaurant in Columbus, Oh in 1969 and named it after his 8 year old daughter. Wendy's today has become the third most successful restaurant. He was award the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003. He is entombed in Union Cemetery in Columbus, Oh.
