Karkamış / Jerablus, German railway bridge over the Euphrates river

    Newer Older

Photograph taken between 1915-1918 by a German photographer.
The bridge was replacing a wooden structure. It was built between 1911-1913 by German engineers with a length of 870 m. At the end of WW1, in 1918, the construction was partly destroyed in 1918 and afterwards repaired by the French. The bridge was re-inaugurated in 1925.
