"Surpassing all others....." - ICE FOLLIES OF 1955 - HERSHEY Sports Arena, Hershey, PA. USA
One of the Main Entrances to Hershey Park was from the large parking lot in front of the outdoor stadium to a walkway beside the huge Sports Arena.
Hershey did things in a big way.
There were still residential homes beside this entrance and how I envied the kids who may have lived there, right on the edge of the park (which was free in those days).
The arena hosted hockey games, touring ice shows such as the Ice Follies and Ice Capades - tickets available at Shenk and Tittle - and other arena events. It was also open for public skating.
It's still there, as far as I know.
Passing the arena to the left you saw the first major ride, the Aerial Joy Ride, a futuristic and, again, huge spinning airplane ride. Behind it was the Pretzel. (These are long gone).
Beyond these two adult rides was a kiddie land with small scale rides such as an enclosed ferris wheel, airplanes, and other kid-friendly attractions.
