Imperial House, 31 Temple Street, Birmingham

This is Imperial House at 31 Temple Street in Birmingham. Next door to the right of Somerset House.

This also caught my eye last week.

Had to point up to avoid the people walking past.

Had it on Manual setting, so some shots over exposed.

New Street is to the right of this building.

I thought it was old but it isn't.

Only dates to 1996 - 97 by Temple Cox Nicholls. Seven storeys. Upper ones are / were new. Red brick and reconstituted stone.

The lower four storeys, crushed by the additions are a retained facade of the New Imperial Hotel of 1905 - 07 by Wood & Kendrick. Mildly Baroque with blocked segmental arches, stubby columns, and a centrepiece with a big broken pediment.

Above info from Pevsner Architectural Guides: Birmingham by Andy Foster.
