freeway kingdom

Pasadena Freeway from Elysian Park looking south towards downtown Los Angeles, California.

Built between 1940 and 1943, the Pasadena Freeway is the oldest freeway in Los Angeles and one of the oldest in the country (let's not forget the Davison in Detroit, opened in 1941). The lower northbound lanes (left) are the former Figueroa Street. Hairpin turns and exit ramps that go from 60mph to a 90-degree turn at 15mph in less than 100 feet make this antiquated freeway rather dangerous, but I had a blast driving on it at night with little traffic.
