Soo Working Midwest Industrial Metals Bliss at Cherry Goose Island Chicago January 1990 #2_edited-1
This series of photos shows the only time I was able to catch the Soo crew switching Midwest Industrial Metals' facility at the NE corner of Bliss and Cherry on Goose Island. It took a bunch of maneuvering including crossing two switches and using part of the track that ran along the former Wieboldt's warehouse (by then Pickens-Kane) as a tail track for pulling boxcars in and out.
While taking pictures on the sidewalk on Cherry along the west side of their property a security guard came over and harassed me and told me I could not take pictures. I pointed out I was on a public sidewalk but then left a short time later to avoid a further confrontation. You can see the guard tower in one of the views.
Midwest Industrial Metals later closed and the building was occupied for years by Calumet Photography. Now an Amazon distribution center is there.
The last train on Goose Island was in 2017 when Chicago Terminal shoved dozens of tank cars onto every available track-including ones not used since the Midwest Industrial Metals era.
