An unexpected close up along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway

Got to do a little hiking in the Elkhorn Mountains today outside of Baker City around Phillip's Lake on the Elkhorn Scenic Byway. Always one of our favorite birding spots in Baker County. A little early for fall color but saw some wildlife including this unexpected close up of a resident dragonfly

Baker County’s diverse geography and habitat are ideal for wildlife watching. Throughout the year visitors can see deer, bighorn sheep, antelope, and elk. Less common but just as exciting are the occasional moose, and black bears.
