Morning Rays of Light - Yosemite Valley

Explore #11 Thank you!

A little more than 12 hours before I took this image, I embarked on what I thought would be a moderately easy hike up the trail that leads to Upper Yosemite Falls. I still have not viewed the images captured while up there; however after all the craziness, I ended up here for a morning shoot...This was not the plan.

It was about 5:30 a.m. and standing with this view in front of me, I remember thinking I wish that I was anywhere else but here. With not one cloud, or a single sliver of mist in the valley I was resigned to thinking that there was absolutely nothing I could do to capture an image of this view that looks even a bit different to the many images taken here.

As I continued to stand there sulking and quietly groaning, I noticed that the sun was going to rise just behind El Capitan, and that this could result in some interesting lighting…So I waited.
