Kenley - Kenley Lane
The Postcard
An Imperial Series postcard that was posted in Kenley on the 31st. December 1906 to:
Revd. McKenna,
St. Mary's,
Wellesley Road,
Croydon.
The message on the back of the card was as follows:
"Very pleased to see you
are keeping better and no
bad effects after your
midnight ramble.
You must still be careful
dear Reverend Father.
Wishing you a very happy
New Year.
I expect I will be leaving
very soon.
Nurse Hamilton".
St. Mary's, Croydon
The foundation stone for St. Mary's (Our Lady of Reparation) was laid in Wellesley Road in West Croydon in 1863. Father John McKenna became Parish Priest there in 1894 and remained in that post until 1914.
